Enhancing Dialogic Learning with Low-Stakes Writing Activities
by David S. Hogsette, PhD
A solicited lecture given at a faculty enrichment workshop at Grove City College
Many faculty members resist integrating more writing activities into their courses, largely because they fear an increase in workload, namely grading. In this presentation, I distinguish between low-stakes and high-stakes writing assignments, and I discuss a variety of ways that low-stakes writing activities can be integrated into different disciplines in ways that enhance dialogic learning without overburdening the professor with extra work.
