The following are brief descriptions of some of the volunteer work I’ve engaged in China:
Visiting Volunteer Professor, Yanbian University of Science and Technology, Yanji, China, June-July 2010, June-July 2011. Teach American and English literature, college writing, and conversational English; direct the English House conversation and language activity program; and assist in extracurricular English conversation programs on campus and in local community.
Bring Me Hope Connect 2 Class Discussion Leader, Online, October 2009-May 2010. Lead discussion via email with various Bring Me Hope Chinese translators living in China, helping them improve their English by discussing various social and cultural issues.
Bring Me Hope Volunteer, Kunming, China, July 2009. Spent two weeks at a summer camp, working daily with poor and orphaned Chinese children. For two one-week camps, I was teamed up with a child and a translator, forming small “family units” in which we did various activities and ate our meals together each day.
Faculty Advisor English Corner, NYIT-NUPT International Program, Nanjing, China, February-May 2008. Directed the extracurricular English Corner program in which students practiced their conversational English by learning contemporary songs, playing word games, and discussing American culture.
